Exterior Painting
1. Inspect the exterior surfaces
Check siding, trim, doors, windows, corners, fascia, railings, and other exterior areas for peeling paint, cracks, holes, moisture, mildew, rot, or damage.
2. Protect the surrounding area
Cover plants, walkways, decks, windows, lights, outdoor furniture, and nearby surfaces with drop cloths, plastic, and painter’s tape.
3. Clean the surfaces
Remove dirt, dust, mildew, grease, cobwebs, and loose debris. Pressure washing may be used when needed to create a clean surface.
4. Remove loose paint
Scrape peeling, flaking, or bubbling paint until the surface is solid and ready for preparation.
5. Sand rough areas
Sand edges, rough spots, and scraped areas to create a smooth transition and improve paint adhesion.
6. Repair damaged areas
Fill cracks, holes, gaps, and damaged sections with the appropriate exterior filler or patching material. Replace severely damaged wood if needed.
7. Caulk gaps and joints
Apply exterior-grade caulking around windows, doors, trim, siding joints, and corners to seal gaps and protect against moisture.
8. Prime bare or repaired surfaces
Apply primer to bare wood, metal, repaired areas, stains, or surfaces where old paint has been removed.
9. Cut in detailed areas
Use a brush to paint edges, corners, trim lines, around windows, doors, and areas where a roller or sprayer cannot reach.
10. Apply the first coat
Apply high-quality exterior paint using a brush, roller, or sprayer, depending on the surface and project requirements.
11. Apply the second coat
After the first coat dries properly, apply a second coat for stronger coverage, richer colour, and longer-lasting protection.
12. Paint trim, doors, and details
Paint exterior trim, doors, shutters, frames, railings, and decorative details with care for a clean, finished look.
13. Inspect and touch up
Check all surfaces for missed spots, uneven coverage, drips, or rough areas, and complete all necessary touch-ups.
14. Clean up and final walkthrough
Remove protective coverings, clean the work area, and complete a final walkthrough to ensure a smooth, durable, and professional exterior finish.
